Operation CeaseFire Paterson
The
Campaign To Stop The Next Shooting!
Our Vision:
Our Vision:
Our vision is ambition.
No CeaseFire operation yet has completely eradicated most or all violent
crimes and homicides where CeaseFire is implemented. We intend to be the first so that we may
share our ideas with other communities nationwide and assist them in also
achieving citywide peace.
Our final goal is to see an end to street-violence in America by way of cultural change.

Our Mission:
Our mission is to stop shootings before
they happen by engaging the community, law enforcement, city officials, school
district, clergy, community organizations, and other key stakeholders in an
anti-violence, crime prevention strategy and network that will improve the
quality of life in Paterson.
Overview:
Overview:
Operation CeaseFire is an anti-violence
campaign designed to stop the next
Shooting before it happens. It is
modeled after the Operation CeaseFire Chicago and Baltimore programs that have
proven results showing reductions in crime where implemented. Operation CeaseFire mobilizes the community
and law enforcement to work in a collaborative partnership to reduce community
violence in a proactive and comprehensive, citywide fashion.
The program is an entirely strategic
and data-driven, problem-solving approach that reduces gun violence in
specifically targeted high crime rate locations.
5 Core Components:
Ø Community Mobilization: Developing collaboration between residents, schools,
businesses, government entities, and social organizations to inform all
involved that violence and shootings are unacceptable. Community efforts include organizing block
associations as well as other localized strategies.
Ø Trained Outreach Workers: Recruiting citizens from
the community to interact directly with victims and their families and to
assist in accessing services such as education and employment.
Ø Public Awareness: Using all forms of mass
media communication and community partnerships to produce an educational
campaign focused on eradicating the violence completely.
Ø Clergy/Faith Based: Using local religious
institutions to distribute public awareness materials, host prayer vigils,
provide a safe haven, and offer counseling to the victims and the community
at-large.
Ø Law Enforcement and Prosecution: Focusing investigative
and prosecutorial efforts to solve gun crimes as well as incapacitate and deter
violent criminals.
